The "UGHHH... It's Monday..." attitude is one that plagued me for years of my life. Maybe you have been there, living for the weekend and dreading weekdays. Depending on our circumstances and our season in life, it's almost inevitable that we wake up feeling exhausted, worn out, and wishing we had a three (or maybe 4) day weekend at some point. Unfortunately, those who are "stuck" here consistently may suffer from a discontentment in some area of their lives. Maybe it's the reality that you are waking up to go to a job that you hate, and it's sucking the life right out of you. For everyone who has been here, you know that you need a change. Some of those changes might be hard, uncomfortable, and even risky... but regardless of the change, you know it's needed.
Let me present you with a simple change that anyone can make, and it may just impact the rest of your life.
You see, I'm convinced there are two types of people in this world.
(1) The "IT'S MONDAYYYYY" people. And the...
(2) "UGHHH, it's Monday... people.
Opinion: I think how you approach Monday says a lot about your overall satisfaction and contentment with life.
Fact: Making a simple mindset shift can make a world of a difference.
If you woke up this Monday morning in the "UGHHH" category, you aren't alone. Maybe you had a long weekend filled with hard work... or a long weekend filled with a little too much fun. Maybe the hard work or fun led to a lack of sleep, maybe it didn't. Regardless of what the weekend presented you, Monday is here. Monday is inevitable. As long as you are living, Mondays will come! You have a choice to make, and depending on your decision you will either conquer Mondays or fall victim to them.
I was in the "UGHHH" category for years... and to be honest, I felt stuck. I felt disheartened, discouraged, and demoralized because I knew I wasn't doing what I envisioned for my life. Funny thing is, I knew was stuck, but I had no idea how to get unstuck.
That's when I discovered the power of Mondays.
I don't know exactly what led me to try this... but instead of dreading Monday's I tried playing a few little mind-tricks on myself.
1. Every Saturday and Sunday, I would look Mondays straight in the face and verbalize my readiness to those around me by asking people, "Are you ready for Monday? I know I am!"
2. Every Monday I would awake to my alarm clock and say out loud, "Let's do this!" While pumping my chest. (Yes, a little bizarre but it worked)
3. Once out of bed, I prayed to thank God for something I was grateful for.
4. Then I expressed gratitude for something I was to achieve that week that hadn't happened yet.
5. Finally, I threw on my favorite playlist while getting ready and sang out loud every song that came on.
BAM! There you have it, my life was changed forever.
But here's the crazy part...
My co-workers actually started seeing a difference in me. It was like night and day. They actually started to ask me, "I don't know what you are taking, but can I have some?"
I was taking a double dose of Monday and it flowed into the rest of my week. The job that I hated became a job that I was grateful for. My attitude and perception of life changed with one simple mindset shift. I was a pleasure to be around, people who would have described me as grumpy now said I was funny and positive. I started to get along with people who I had never gotten along with. I started being more effective during my workday than I ever had before, and people started to take notice. People knew something changed... But they didn't know what. I changed something that everyone else had, but weren't using correctly.
Life is what you make of it, your perception is everything.
Everyone has to wake up to the same Mondays, which Monday will you wake up to?
